My father used to say that it’s never too late to do anything you wanted to do. And he said ‘You never know what you can accomplish until you try.’ — Michael Jordan
It’s a mindset. How you speak to yourself is so important. If all we ever tell ourselves is that we are too old and it’s too late, then we might as well just give up and live a boring life for the years to come.
I know you don’t want that!
Why not start a new career in your 50’s? By this age, we’ve most likely been through some major life experiences and have become wiser in our years. We probably know what we like and don’t like, as well as what our strengths and weaknesses are. I don’t know about you, but I certainly have a way better sense of this now as compared to how I was in my 20’s. We’re not “new” but instead we’ve become “experienced newbies.” How many times have you heard or read about someone who has become successful after a major career change? I personally know of some people who have, and I bet you do too.

It’s never too late to start an exercise program. Just because you haven’t been active doesn’t mean you have to be like that forever. You don’t need to wait until January 1 and make it a new year’s resolution. Why not start right now? I’m always amazed and inspired by runners who are in their 60’s or older who participate in marathons and half marathons! We all know the benefits of exercise so just go do it! As long as you’re being safe and doing activities at your level, you can start right now.
Has there been a bucket list item you want to tackle? A country you’ve been wanting to visit? Do you want to take lessons for voice, acting, or an instrument? How about ballroom dancing? Whatever it might be, go get ‘em! Don’t sit around and waste your time away. And don’t think “I can’t do that, or what would people say?” First of all, who cares what others think or say. Secondly, you CAN achieve anything you put your mind towards. Have you ever thought that maybe your actions will inspire others to try new things?
Same goes for dating. Whether you’re divorced, widowed, or perhaps you just haven’t found that special someone yet, why give up? It can most certainly happen to you. Why wouldn’t it? Just keep an open mind, stay true to yourself, and be positive.
Don’t rule yourself out of this game called life. You are not too old, and it’s never too late to start something. All it takes is a positive mindset and simply starting. So often we think about things or have ideas, but then we never take action. Just start! As Michael Jordan quoted his dad, ‘you never know what you can accomplish until you try.’
