Curious as to what this has to do with healing and wellness? For me, it’s a life hack. After doing some research, I discovered that wearing many rings actually has spiritual meaning too. Long before this, I stumbled upon the habit around 4 months after my husband’s passing.
It was one of the many “firsts” we must deal with. The first holiday season without our loved one, our first birthday without them, and in this instance with the rings it was the first wedding anniversary as a widow.
I had continued to wear my wedding ring that summer and into the fall. At that time, I did not question removing it. It felt comfortable and brought me a sense of closeness to my past life. Thinking back, friends may have been looking at me wondering why the heck I was still wearing it. For some women who I have met along this journey, I’ve noticed that they don’t wear their wedding ring from the start. There is no right or wrong, which I suppose is one of the reasons why this journey can be so darn difficult.
As my wedding anniversary approached, I started to sense anxiety. Every time I would glance down at my left hand and see my diamond, I would get really sad. I thought “why are you doing this to yourself, just take it off!” So I did.
At first, I felt like my left hand was naked. It was such a strange sensation. Almost eerie. I had been wearing my wedding ring for nearly 26 years. And I was one who pretty much only wore my wedding ring and no other rings. I was always more into earrings.
But shortly thereafter, I started to feel free! It brought on a sense of relief! Thus, I decided to keep it off until that first anniversary passed by. Then I’ll put it back on. That was the plan.
Guess what? I never put it back on. I think it was because I felt like my wedding ring was a sign that I was holding onto my past life, preventing me from moving forward. In a way, it made me feel like I was living a fake life. Bordering on pretending to be married.
Hence, the start of wearing other rings. I honestly don’t know how I thought of it. One day, I found old rings in my jewelry box and decided to put them on. Some were so old it was almost laughable! Big ones, small ones, some were even tarnished. I really need to get some new rings, I thought to myself.
Which is what I did. I went shopping and bought myself some new rings. I am talking rings that were anywhere from 20 to 50 bucks. Nothing glamorous.
Magically, it made me feel human again. Something so simple yet it worked wonders!
Since then, my kids have bought me rings. I now have a beautiful collection! And quite the selection too. I love my rings!
How many rings should be worn, you ask? Well, I do 3 on my right hand and 2 on my left. Some are stackable rings. It does the trick for me, but you do you! How fun it is to look at your hands and see the beautiful sparkly rings!

Apparently, there are spiritual meanings behind wearing rings. According to the practice of Reiki, your fingers are energy channels into the universe. Gold, silver, copper, or any metal on a finger becomes an extension of that energy, working almost like an antenna. And then, each finger has its own symbolism. For example, Reiki teaches that your thumb’s energy comes from the energy of Mars. According to this theory, Mars is a general leading an army with the purpose of achieving a goal. That’s why when something is good, we give it a thumbs up. When it fails, a thumbs down. Who knew? If you wear a thumb ring, it could help strengthen your will and determination. And if you wear multiple rings, it could result in various energies working together to achieve balance in your life. Again, who knew? I sure didn’t! There you go! My life hack, unknowingly doing it and not even realizing I was balancing my energies by putting rings on various fingers. Whether you are spiritual or not, I can tell you that wearing many rings gives me peace. It’s doing the trick.
