“People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed; never throw out anyone.” – Audrey Hepburn
I remember when I was 25 years old, walking through the grocery store when someone stopped me and told me I had beautiful skin. I am pretty sure I didn’t think much of the compliment back then. Of course, I said thank you and then went about finishing my grocery shopping. If someone said that to me now, it would make my day!
Fast forward nearly 3 decades later and after some major life experiences, here I am trying to figure out anti-aging products on skin care to hair to why my metabolism is slowing down.
I have to reiterate that I am not a healthcare professional of any kind. I am just someone who is trying to learn more about aging gracefully!
I am a firm believer that if we feel good about ourselves, it can project outwards and result in many benefits. Personally, during times when I didn’t take care of myself, I tended to avoid social settings and interaction with others. I didn’t feel like going out, much less try to live my best life. My confidence meter would tumble. I am sure many can relate. And especially after going through a hardship, it would really benefit us to feel good about ourselves. So let’s look into some ways!
The anti-aging methods I’m about to describe are ones I have either tried myself or they are ones I’ve been researching. I have done only some of these services. I do go to a Med Spa, and from going there it has intrigued me to learn more about all of the services offered. I am not giving advice. Rather, I am sharing the information with the hopes that maybe trying some of these methods will help you feel better, alleviate the aches and pains you may have, and ultimately build confidence. The intent is not glamour! It’s more about feeling good about ourselves. Please talk to your healthcare professional and ask questions before starting.
1.) Broadband Light Therapy (BBL Hero) – This is a skin therapy treatment which uses intense pulsed light to target problems such as age spots, sun damage, and pigmentation issues. It promotes collagen production and cell turnover which can result in a brighter, more even complexion. There is minimal downtime.
2.) Moxi – This is a laser skin treatment which corrects pigmentation spots and improves overall skin tone and texture. This is a relatively short treatment with minimal downtime. Your face will be numbed with a topical cream before the treatment. It is often combined with BBL Hero for maximum benefits.
3.) Botox – We’ve all heard of this, right? A neurotoxin injection goes into a targeted specific area to reduce wrinkles. Results are seen in about a week and can last 3-4 months. There is no downtime.
4.) Collagen Supplements – Collagen is the fundamental protein that gives our skin strength and elasticity. Great for hair and nails too. Now being in my 50’s, I’ve learned that my skin has been slowly losing collagen since my 20’s! Ugh! As we age, the production and quality of collagen decreases which is what leads to wrinkles and poor skin texture.
5.) Dermal Fillers – We lose volume in our face (temples, cheeks, lips) as we age. Fillers can replace this loss. Most fillers are made from hyaluronic acid which is a naturally occurring substance found in our bodies.

6.) IV Therapy – This is intravenous therapy which involves injections of nutrients directly into a vein. Yes, you can orally take supplements such as collagen or B vitamins but your body may only be absorbing 60% of the benefits. IV Therapy will directly deliver the nutrients into your body, so the benefits are stronger and last longer.
7.) Hair Extensions and Fill-in Products – This not only can lengthen your hair but also addresses the issue of thinning hair. I have to admit this is a concern of mine, as my own mother has lost so much of her hair! It has been thinning for a long time, and nowadays it’s so bad that she is bald on top. Hair extensions can add volume while fill-in products, such as for the scalp, can conceal and add fullness to the top of the head. I can definitely see this product in my future!

8.) Chiropractic Care – I’ve learned that seeing a Chiropractor on a routine basis can help prevent injuries. I used to think people only go because they have pain from a fall or they threw out their back. Well, I’ve learned the hard way. I would go when I had pain from running, it would be resolved and then I would stop going. Eventually, the cycle repeats. What’s important is that the Chiropractor does adjustments to bring your body back into alignment to prevent injury, but then you maintain it by making it a routine practice.

9.) Acupuncture – A form of traditional Chinese medicine in which very thin needles are inserted into the skin to relieve pain, balance energy flow, and help with other issues such as nausea and digestion. The needles stimulate acupoints, which are specific points in the body that can help with the above-listed issues.
10.) Dry Needling – Different than Acupuncture, a practitioner inserts a “dry” needle (no fluid) into the body in trigger points in your muscle to release the knot, muscle spasm, or pain.
11.) Coolsculpting – As the name suggests, this is a cooling process that crystalizes and dissolves fat cells. This is a FDA-cleared treatment for specific areas of the body. Once the treatment is complete, your body will naturally eliminate the targeted fat cells over the course of a 6-16 weeks.
12.) Cleanse – This is a process to eliminate toxins in your body which have accumulated over time. Results can include weight loss, improved energy, reduced bloating, and restored digestive health. It usually involves taking supplements.
13.) Massage – Yes, it’s nice to treat yourself and get pampered. But I’m referring to deep tissue and wellness massages. I make it a point to go monthly. We as caregivers are always putting the needs of others first. Between work, kids, household duties, and multi-tasking every single day, us women tend to get tension knots in our neck and shoulders. For me, it can worsen and cause headaches. I’ve heard many say the same.
And it goes without saying, exercise! Make movement a daily habit. Carve out 30 minutes for yourself. The only bad workout is the one that didn’t happen! Focus not only on cardio but on strength. We lose muscle as we age, so it is very important that we strength train.
We are not too old! It’s never too late! Remember…..self-care is not selfish. You are worthy so go after it!
