Focus On Your Blessings This Holiday Season

Published December 5, 2025

I wish every holiday season could be amazing and fantastic for everyone. We all know that’s not true. For the majority of our lives, IT IS a wonderful time of the year. But we all have tough years, as this is the real journey of life.

If 2025 is the year of your loss, I’m so sorry. This Christmas will be tough. Whether you’re grieving the death of a loved one, undergoing treatment for an illness, filing for divorce, or worrying about how you’re going to pay the bills because you’ve lost your job…..these are all varying forms of loss.

Why does it seem easier to focus on what we DON’T have? Do we really want to feel sorry for ourselves all the time? Why do we compare our lives to others? I guarantee their lives aren’t as flawless as you think. And if it does appear peachy, well…that won’t last. EVERYONE has tough times. EVERYONE will eventually suffer a loss of some sort.

Let’s shift our intention to what we DO have! Look around, I promise you have blessings in front you. Get in the habit of feeling grateful every single day, even if it’s a tough day. It is a skill that once developed, your mind will start to look for the beauty in each day. You must train your mind. As with anything that is important, you have to work at it.

Slow down and take notice. Are you surrounded by loving family and friends? Are you living in a comfy and cozy home? Aren’t these major things that sometimes we overlook? We shouldn’t take these for granted. But even the small things matter. That kind text from a friend. The beauty of newly fallen snow. Someone made you laugh. The companionship of a pet. A hug from your child. A delicious meal. The list can go on and on. Train your mind to seek them out!

As you’re doom scrolling, please realize that people usually don’t post negative events in their lives. Don’t compare your life to someone else’s. I can guarantee you that theirs isn’t picture perfect. Better yet, maybe limit your time on social media this holiday season. It could save you from a lot of anguish.

The blessings are there! They exist all around you! All you have to do is look for them. Don’t let the loss consume your focus. I know it’s easier said than done, but please don’t get caught in the loss. This holiday season, really put your energy and intention on the positive aspects in your life.

My hope for everyone for the rest of this month is to feel loved, rested, and calm. Gratitude and peace can co-exist along with the grief. It’s not completely one or the other. Before you know it, 2026 will be here. A fresh start, a new beginning! One that will bring hope and awakening in your life.
