Do you feel that you’re in a lull? Like an interval of time with lack of anything really happening? I know many of you are waiting for something – a new job or promotion, an announcement of some sort, someone new to enter into your world, or perhaps it’s a breakthrough when you can finally say “I’ve overcome the dark time in my life.”
And you’re probably wondering what you’re supposed to do while waiting.
You must be patient. And you should pray. You will get through it! Just keep showing up daily, put in the work, and you’ll see the light at the end of the tunnel. You might be feeling that the road ahead is impossible, but please trust in the process and know God has a plan for you. I have a strong speculation that you are evolving even though you may not realize it.
I’ve had many people ask me, “Julie, how did you do it? When did you come out of your grief and how long did it take?”
I’ve come to the conclusion that there wasn’t a single magical day when I became “okay” again. I believe that I was gradually healing during a time of what I have termed the WAITING PERIOD.
During this WAITING PERIOD, I did a lot of reflecting and soul-searching. I focused my intentions on all the positive aspects in my life rather than my loss. I discovered surprising things about myself. I prayed daily, along with listing out moments of my day that I was grateful for. This practice of being grateful along with daily prayer continues on, and it has become an integral part of my well-being. Refer to my Feeling Grateful Blog for motivation.
Ironically, the priest at our church spoke about this during his homily this past weekend. He elaborated on the importance of prayer during a WAITING PERIOD. If you find yourself in a situation such as not being able to forgive someone, or you’re trying to overcome a hardship but it seems impossible to accomplish, you pray and you wait. Whatever your situation might be, you pray and you wait.

I also believe it’s important to keep an open mind. As we all know but may not want to accept, life is not a straight path. It will deliver twists and turns, some good and some bad. We can’t be stubborn and not see the path that we’re being directed towards. Read my blog What Path Are You On for further reflection.
And instead of thinking “I can’t do this or that,” tell yourself “I can’t do it YET.” I know you will get there. Again, you are growing and transforming during this WAITING PERIOD. You might not feel like you are, but every single day you’re inching towards recovery.
And no one’s WAITING PERIOD is the same. We all come from various backgrounds, have different people in our lives, and incur diverse experiences, so this leads each of us to have our own special journey. There isn’t a specific timeframe.
I am nowhere near perfect, never thought so and never pretend to be. But I am happy with how far I’ve come because I fought hard to get here. So keep moving, putting one foot in front of the other. Eventually, good things will emerge. You deserve to see what happens if you keep going! Don’t quit until the miracle happens!
I will leave you with this. My sister gave me the classic Dr. Seuss book “Oh, the Places You’ll Go” when I graduated from college many years ago. This week’s blog reminds me of these few pages:

“The waiting place…for people just waiting.
Waiting for a train to go
Or a bus to come, or a plane to go
Or the mail to come, or the rain to go
Or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow
Or waiting around for a Yes or No
Or waiting for their hair to grow.
Everyone is just waiting.
Waiting for the fish to bite
Or waiting for wind to fly a kite
Or waiting around for Friday night
Or waiting, perhaps, for their Uncle Jake
Or a pot to boil, or a Better Break
Or a string of pearls, or a pair of pants
Or a wig with curls, or Another Chance.
Everyone is just waiting.
NO!
That’s not for you!
Somehow you’ll escape
All that waiting and staying.
You’ll find the bright places
Where Boom Bands are playing.
With banner flip-flapping,
Once more you’ll ride high!
Ready for anything under the sky.
Ready because you’re that kind of guy!” (or gal!)
